Kilimall: Online Shopping for Electronics, Home & Living, Fashion in Kenya

Kilimall is an African e-commerce company that is currently operating in Kenya  Uganda and  Nigeria with a projected plans of extending its services to other parts of Africa. Their head office is located in the capital city of Kenya - Nairobi. It was founded in 2014 in kenya by Yang Tao, a known ecommerce entrepreneur.

Kilimall operates three e-commerce models, through online shopping platform, namely; FBK (Fulfilled By Kilimall) where local and global sellers are given an opportunity to store their products in Kilimall warehouses; D.S (Drop Shipping) where local merchants store their products at their own premises while selling on the platform and G.S (Global Shipping) where merchants sell their products directly from overseas.

The platform retails a wide range of products to cover home appliances, ranging from smart phones and accessories, electronic products such as computers, tablets and TVs as well as baby stuff, beauty and fashion products, among others. It operates a business model that covers customers both in urban and rural areas across the three nations.


Besides its own established logistic department, Kilimall has cooperated with other leading logistic companies in Africa such as G4s courier (a global logistic service provider) Aramex, Wells Fargo among others to smoothen and shorten the time the customers wait for their goods. The payment services has also been improved significantly with employment of latest technology to ensure a secure, efficient and seamless online payment. Currently, the system provides unlimited mode of payment with the cooperation from well-established and eminent networks of banks such as Equity bank, KCB bank, Ecobank, Citibank, Creditbank among others. With advancement of Mpesa services, customers can do transaction anywhere at any time at their own convenience.

The main mission of the company is to improve lives of African people by providing better quality products at affordable prices. Kilimall's entry to African e-commerce has expanded shopping options for the customers by introducing more products both local and global on the platform. Kilimall has a vast vision of expanding to the horn of Africa in the near future. This platform provides market for products especially high technology products like electronics. It has been boosted by cooperation with some tech giants like Tecno, Samsung, Infinix and most recently Huawei, among others, to ensure safe, better quality and affordable products are available to their customers.

The main warehouse is located in Nairobi and serves as the main administration center of all other offices across the nation including, but not limited to, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Kisumu. This warehouse is strategically positioned to cover the entire nation's population with a sizeable number of merchants that stands currently at 2000 and continues to grow.


"Lipa" means "pay" in Swahili.

LipaPay is an online payment gateway which focuses on payment collections and remittance. It was founded in 2014 by Yang Tao and Kilimall’s Chief Operating Officer Robin Xie.

LipaPay provides payment collection methods from mobile wallets to payment gateway and invoice payment and many more. LipaPay's partners are Interswitch, Guaranty Trust Bank, United Bank for Africa, Diamond Bank, Equity Bank Kenya Limited, M-Pesa, Stanbic Bank, Bharti Airtel, Credit Bank, KCB Bank Kenya Limited.

LipaPay currently supports merchants in E-commerce (such as Kilimall, Gearbest), Entertainment company (such as Soccerbook) and so on. Together with Kilimall, LipaPay operates in Uganda, Kenya, and Nigeria.

Kilimall was established in Kenya in 2014 deriving its name from Mount. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. The name came by as an inspiration of becoming a dominant player in Africa’s e-commerce. Currently, Kilimall operates in three countries in Africa; Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria.

It has played an important role in the kenya's economy. For instance, In May 2017, the company took part in the "Buy Kenya Build Kenya" campaign initiative by the Kenyan government, with the aim of promoting local manufactures across the country. In November 2016, Gionee launched a new stylish smartphone in the Kenyan market ahead of Black Friday (shopping) festival. The Gionee M6 Lite was launched in Kenya in partnership with Kilimall.

In August 2017, Tecno Spark  also launched exclusively on Kilimall in Kenya.

In April 2018, Huawei Y7 Prime (2018) Started Selling in Kenya as another Kilimall's exclusively available phone.

In November 2018, the highly anticipated Kilimall Black Friday 2018 starts from November 1st to 30th. 

In the coming 2019, Kilimall set scholarship for Kenyan students, up to KSh. 50000 for back to school, every students can take part in the activity. It starts from Dec. 28th to Jan 7th
